The University of Virginia's
Miller Center seeks a Web Developer/Administrator to contribute to the ongoing work of its website. This position will join a collaborative team of creative scholars, writers, designers, video producers and technologists who together maintain the Center's website and other web-based technologies. This position will report directly to the Assistant Director of Information Technology. This position is anticipated to begin on or about August 29, 2022.
The ideal candidate will already have experience with Drupal development or the ability to learn it quickly with training to be supported by the Center. The ideal candidate will also have working knowledge of and competence with JavaScript, PHP, CSS and MySQL database administration. Other required and preferred qualifications may be found below.
Responsibilities
Serve on the web development team by:

Providing ongoing maintenance and enhancement of Miller Center website.

Developing recommendations on moderately complex problems.
-
Collaborating in establishing and meeting technical specifications.

Identifying and solving problems, testing and implementing applications, and providing ongoing technical evaluations.

Assisting in integration of additional technologies to enhance sites and focus sites toward intended audiences.
-
Assisting with maintenance/support of technology infrastructure.
-
Processing multimedia for web publication.
-
Interacting with public and internal stakeholders, including training of other users.

Maintaining current knowledge of relevant technologies and best practices.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS computer engineering or related discipline is required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

One or more years of experience in web development preferred.

Ability to design effective web content delivery required.

Ability to create, test and deploy improvements to a complex web application based on stakeholder specifications required.

Fluency in HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and JavaScript required.

Experience with Drupal development, or ability to learn it quickly, required.

Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Node) preferred.

Experience working with Git-based, collaborative code management preferred.

Experience developing, theming and maintaining Drupal site preferred.

Experience working with faculty in a higher education setting preferred.

Knowledge of Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Cloud applications preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively, especially regarding technical information, required.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings and programs.
This position is anticipated to be in the office or a hybrid work environment.
This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
This is a restricted position that is anticipated to begin on or about August 29, 2022 and extends through June 16, 2024. Renewal is possible, subject to performance, availability of funds, and need. Priority consideration of applications will begin on May 6, 2022, but this position will remain open until filled.
The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. This position will require education verification.
