The UVA Library is seeking a Technology Solutions Specialist within Library IT's Technology Solutions Unit. Technology Solutions supports and assesses a range of new and existing technology options (third-party, open source, and bespoke) and recommends strategies and solutions that best match user and business needs given available resources.

Day-to-day, the Technology Solutions Specialist will respond to support requests related to solutions managed by Technology Solutions, act as tech lead for assigned solutions, and escalate support requests to TS engineers and project managers as needed.

As technical lead, they will monitor performance; provide consultations; and coordinate systems integration, configuration, accessibility, scalability, and security of supported solutions. They will work with vendors, technical staff, and stakeholders to meet Library and University IT requirements and maintain strategic alignment; review vendor documentation; and maintain internal documentation. This will include optimizing software systems to better utilize resources and improve user experiences, debugging complex systems, and providing user training and programming support as needed on special projects.

The TS Specialist may participate in strategic planning activities, as well as collaborative partnerships with associations and partner institutions to represent UVA Library, maintain knowledge of new technologies, and meet professional development goals.

Working at UVA Library:
This position is 100% eligible for remote work and is open to candidates looking for full-time or part-time employment (20-hour minimum).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Experience providing consultations, training, and/or presentations to a diverse group of stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Experience with service/solution management and/or project management
  • Experience with one or more of the following: database design/management, content management systems, integrated library systems, database query, networks, scripting, and programming.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, configuring, and troubleshooting technical systems.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning, a growth mindset, and a drive for continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with or willingness to be trained on accessibility (Sec.508, WCAG, VPATs) and security standards (SOC2).
  • Familiarity with or an interest in Gallery/Library/Archive/Museum (GLAM) systems and services.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,000-65,000
