Senior/Specialist Network Engineer

UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applications for a Senior/Specialist Network Engineer to support the Enterprise Infrastructure team. This position is responsible for the core routing network on the UVA Academic side, including MPLS implementation, and a broad spectrum of core technologies across load balancing, core firewalls, network segmentation and performance management. The position has recently expanded from on-premises networking to cloud networking and hybrid models. The selected candidate will be required to participate in an on-call support rotation.

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience with network architecture and design or equivalent combination of education, experience and certifications.
  • Network expertise in design and operations in any/all of the following areas:
    • MPLS
    • IS-IS/OSPF
    • BGP
    • Network segmentation (firewall rules, high-security networking)
    • DNS/DDNS
    • Load balancing (such as F5)
    • Cloud networking (Azure, AWS), including hybrid interconnections
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper, Cisco routing and firewalls, Fortigate, Juniper switching.
  • Demonstrated background in network operations best practices: reliability, change control, root cause analysis, CMDB, documentation (ITILv4 practices).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • CCNA equivalent certification.

Anticipated hiring range : $100,000 - $120,000
