6 West is a 30-bed Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery acute care unit. Our interdisciplinary team cares for patients with spine surgeries, spinal cord injuries, head injuries, brain tumors, pituitary tumors, hydrocephalus, brain hemorrhages, and a variety of head and neck cancers. With specific Neuro Core Curriculum classes built into the 6 West RN Orientation, we strive to promote fundamental neuroscience nursing education that will be applied at the bedside. We have a number of admissions and discharges daily for whom patient and family education is at the forefront of our nursing care. Our unit boasts countless opportunities for learning, both from patients and from certified, experienced colleagues. The Neuroscience Service Line also nurtures educational and research endeavors and functions as a pioneer for both clinical and technological advances. It offers members a professional and dynamic environment in which to practice and develop.

Manages care and implements treatment plans at a refined skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team. Position Compensation Range: $28.22 - $46.56 Hourly
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure: Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
