Job ID: R0039053 | Data Analysis | Full Time | Charlottesville, VA
Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Our E & G Department has an entry-level opportunity for a Quality Control Inspector who reviews and inspects the buildings on grounds with attention and focus on details, making reasonable judgment calls on scoring based on defined standards and logical conclusions, all toward ensuring that high-quality custodial services are being maintained according to defined standards.

If you enjoy the type of work atmosphere that feels like you're "running your own show," then the role of UVA's Quality Assurance Inspector is for you.

In this position, you'll receive extensive training from a professional and then be on your own as you walk and monitor space types daily, scanning for cleaning deficiencies in academic buildings across gounds. Weekly team meetings keep everyone focused and on the same page. You also are encouraged to make suggestions to improve any aspect of your role. Here, we feel everyone's voice should be heard and that those closest to the problem are best suited to find a solution.

This position is for the person who enjoys working solo but with the flexibility to reach out to colleagues and/or your supervisor when needed.

Even if you've never performed a similar role, if you are self-motivated, detail-oriented, possess good and objective judgment, and meet the physical and other essential functions of the job, we'd like to talk with you!

Duties of the Quality Assurance Inspector Include:
  • Helping internal customers (supervisors, managers, frontline) understand and support the QA process, including appearance items, weighting, and scoring.
  • Inspecting spaces thoroughly, objectively, and accurately based on the condition of appearance items and APPA level standards, including checking dispensers for fill levels and operating condition.
  • Utilizing electronic tools (iPad, iPhone, SharePoint, Tableau, Microsoft Suite of tools, etc.) as part of performing daily inspections, including taking clear photos, showing item context, and creating an overall impression that supports scoring choices made. Supporting supervisor in reviewing reports and generating statistical reports as directed.
  • Working with supervisors, managers, and other inspectors to achieve calibration of scoring, including being willing to change focus, process, or observation style in order to reach sameness in scoring, as directed by supervisor.
  • Preparing documentation tools (photo catalogs, tip sheets, etc.) for use in training and in communicating QA program guidelines as directed by supervisor. Maintaining such documentation and performing updates on QA SharePoint or Tableau sites.
  • Helping prepare action plans and work schedules, making adjustments as priorities or new information is presented.
  • Working with internal customers to help them improve quality results via training, instruction, demonstration, and performing zone-specific tours to ensure understanding of the QA's role, including the why and how determinations are made.
  • Developing positive partnerships and relationships with team members, while remaining objective in performing duties of the inspector role.
