Project Associates serve as an organizational point person, supporting projects at a higher level than Project Coordinators. Associates ensure that major milestones are achieved under the oversight of a Project Manager. Project Associates work with a degree of independence, but under supervision.

The Karsh Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia (KIOD) seeks a dynamic and collaborative Program Manager. The new public-facing, pan-university institute is designed to project the University's commitment to democracy and help strengthen democratic institutions, practices, and culture.

Consistent with the University's goal to be "great and good," the Karsh Institute will articulate, support, and sustain values fundamental to democratic society while envisioning and helping to create a future when democracy's aspirations and reality are one.

The qualified candidate will be able to:
  • Execute day-to-day program management, including managing program timelines, budgets, and logistics.
  • Support program development including conducting research, gathering relevant and accurate information, and drafting memoranda and briefing materials.
  • Work closely with the Director of Programming on program planning, execution, assessment, and reporting.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating program-related conferences or meetings.
  • Participate in event planning and provide event support, as needed.
  • Facilitate coordination with UVA and external partners, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Help to develop student engagement opportunities.
  • Provide other administrative support to ongoing programs, as needed.

Qualified candidates must have:
  • A bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience in program or project management, administrative coordination, or academic affairs.
  • A commitment to promoting the research and scholarship of democracy and democratic institutions and culture.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects in a complex environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • A track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • The ability to build rapport and engagement with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated skills in team building and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft PowerPoint.

The Program Manager will report to Director of Programming.

This position is located In Charlottesville, VA.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,000 - $70,000, commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt-level, benefited position.
