The school of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks a new Program Manager to support the administration and operation of academic programs in the School of Data Science. Programs include the residential and/or online MS in Data Science programs, the PhD program (once approved by SCHEV) or the undergraduate BS/BA programs (currently in the development stage). The program manager will work closely with their respective program directors to be responsible for the following:
  • Providing high-level administrative support to program directors.
  • Facilitating academic planning and term preparation, including course offerings and faculty teaching assignments.
  • Supporting the recruitment, admission and enrollment processes in their program and in collaboration with the program director and the director of admissions and financial aid.
  • Supporting admission review meetings and provide necessary award data to the Admission Team for decision letters.
  • Helping maintain the program websites and liaising with the Communications department to grow the program visibility.
  • Helping foster and shape the program culture with the program director.
  • Coordinating program-related events, including orientation, prospective student visits, mid-year student evaluations, thesis presentations and graduation activities.
  • Establishing, maintaining and communicating program policies.
  • Managing student communications from pre-orientation to degree completion.
  • Tracking and facilitating student progress from pre-orientation to degree completion.
  • Coordinating and soliciting student feedback from students about the program.
  • Using existing systems, such as Slate, to prepare various status reports for the program.
  • Managing program budgets at the direction of the program director and participating in budget planning.
  • Connecting students with career services resources and programming.
  • Supporting the administration of comprehensive exam (where applicable).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • The ability to create and maintain organized workflows and processes.
  • The ability to meet competing deadlines and maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ease working with students with underrepresented backgrounds in STEM: women, first-generation, underrepresented minorities.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Master of Science degree preferred
