Physician Assistant - UVA Physicians Group - Radiology and Medical Imaging Community Division

UVA Physicians Group is recruiting for a full-time Physician Assistant for our Radiology and Medical Imaging Community Division. This position will report to the Community Division Vice Chair. In addition, the incumbent will have direct reporting responsibility to the primary attending physician of the day for all duties, but will also provide ancillary support to other physicians as needed.

The incumbent will assist in both inpatient and outpatient care as indicated below for the Community Division:
  • Works with the physicians in providing services and performing minor procedures.
  • Completes individual rounds on patients and participates in rounding with primary attending physician as needed.
  • Provides medical management, such as assisting with preparation of patients for procedures, evaluating and managing patients within scope of license, and communicating with referring or primary care physicians regarding patient care and treatment initiatives.
  • Performs and documents comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, to include initiation of CPR or other appropriate emergency therapy as needed.
  • Formulates diagnoses, identifies problems and health risk profiles, documents and clearly communicates with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Performs, orders and interprets diagnostic studies, such as x-rays and laboratory tests, in consultation with peers and colleagues.
  • Performs procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health System credentialing and privileges.
  • Orders medications, treatments and therapies in accordance with Virginia prescriptive regulations.
  • Requests consultation and initiates referrals to other healthcare providers, including specialists when and if needed.
  • Evaluates and analyzes patient responses to the disease process and/or therapeutic, diagnostic interventions.
  • Follows policies and procedures, including those of UPG, UVA Medical Center, CMS and other contracted payers with which the entity may contract.

  • Education: Graduate of a physician assistant program with a master's degree.
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience as PA required. Experience working in radiology preferred.
  • Licensure: License or license eligibility as an advanced practice provider (Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and reaching (overhead, extensive and repetitive). Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

COVID Vaccination Requirement

Due to the scope of President Biden's Executive Order 14042 issued in early September, all University employees, including remote employees, must receive their final vaccination dose by January 4, 2022, unless they have a University-approved religious or medical exemption. The University has updated policy SEC-045 to reflect these new requirements.

If hired by the Academic Division, excluding School of Medicine, School of Nursing, UVA Physicians Group, and the Health Systems Library, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination or be willing to be vaccinated by January 4, 2022. Academic employees may apply for a University-approved medical or religious exemption.
