Pharmacy Technician 1 - Outpatient Pharmacy

Prepares and delivers medications to patients and/or nursing units under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.

This position is listed for a Pharmacy Technician, General. Applicants with hospital or health system pharmacy experience may be eligible for cross-trained or specialist positions with a higher pay range.

The UVA Health System Pharmacy Technician Training Program is here to help you start a career as a registered pharmacy technician. Our program, which partners with Pharmacy Technician University, will give you all of the skills and knowledge you need to be a versatile, effective pharmacy technician in a variety of settings, including hospital and retail pharmacy. Training is provided on the job, and you'll receive pay and benefits while completing the program requirements. Classroom and experiential training will take place at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Training includes:
  • Online classroom training through Pharmacy Technician University
  • Experiential training in our state-of-the-art community pharmacy
  • Preparation for passing the national certification exam

Candidates accepting a position will continue in their role as a pharmacy technician after completing the program and achieving their Virginia registration. Candidates must complete Pharmacy Technician University and achieve registration within 6 months of employment.

  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
  • Participates in the training of new employees.
  • Uses appropriate computers for entry of patient information and label generation.
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
  • Operates automated dispensing devices/repackaging machine/robots/pumps.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $16.64 - $25.79 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • License/Certification: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required within 6 months of hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20 lbs.
