Pharmacy Tech 1 - Outpatient Pharmacy

Prepares and delivers medications to patients and/or nursing units under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner. Demonstrates the ability to competently work in different general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
  • Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
  • Collaborates with nurses, physicians and allied health professionals to improve patient outcomes.
  • Processes insurance claims and initiates prior authorizations.
  • Participates in the training of new employees.
  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team with minimal supervision.
  • Policies and procedures are followed consistently.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $16.64 - $25.79 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • License/Certification: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician registration required; Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred. PTCB certification required within 9 months of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20 lbs.
