Pharmacy Manager - Inpatient Sterile Compounding

The Sterile Compounding Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sterile compounding activities within our University Hospital Inpatient IV Room Operation. As a member of our leadership pharmacy team, you will also oversee the day-to-day personnel, managing approximately 30 personnel who staff the Main IV Room. As part of the responsibilities, you will ensure the accuracy and quality of all compounded sterile product preparation and quality assurance. You will also be charged with ensuring that new compounding records are safely compiled and kept updated. This position works closely with our clinical operations manager for adult oncology to support standardization of sterile compounding services across the pharmacy enterprise. This position will collaborate with other pharmacy and non-pharmacy leaders and team members in efforts to ensure that operations are maintained of the highest caliber possible. Our ideal candidate would possess a Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) and have direct leadership responsibilities in addition to sterile compounding compliance experience. This role requires you to have superb attention to detail and organizational skills.

Job Description:
  • Oversees daily pharmacy operation.
  • Completes essential human resource functions associated with staff supervision and team leadership.
  • Performs and monitors drug distribution procedures in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, as well as The Joint Commission, Medical Center and departmental policies, and all applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Serves as the team leader to provide leadership in the delivery of pharmacy services.
  • Supports educational mission through training of pharmacy residents, students and pharmacy technician trainees, as well as continuous professional growth.
  • Enhances the quality of delivery of care.
  • In addition to the above duties, additional duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $130,416.00 - $208,665.60 Annually

  • Education: Pharmacy degree (BS and/or PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 1 year of experience required; management experience preferred. Specialized residency training in pharmacy administration will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
