Patient Safety Officer

Responsible for reducing the likelihood of patient harm through identifying patient safety risks and hazardous conditions inherent in the care delivery system throughout the Medical Center and facilitating resolution of those risks. Specific focus will be toward the review and reduction of medical errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. Works collaboratively with administrators managers and physicians to identify and enhance patient safety practices which produce quantitative and qualitative results for both internal and external Medical Center customers.
  • Promote a culture of safety through education about the importance of near miss reporting identifying trends from adverse event data systems-based analysis organizational learning and non-punitive response to error.
  • Manage the patient safety data reported through the Be Safe Reporting system.
  • Collect and analyze patient safety data within the Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) of the Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
  • Respond to Sentinel Events and other serious occurrences and provide expert management of those investigations in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate improvement projects to address patient safety hazards in the care delivery systems which transcend an individual service line or department.
  • Provide effective leadership/facilitation to ensure completion of projects utilizing appropriate process improvement methodologies.
  • Investigate patient care cases referred by external agencies (e.g. QIO and insurance companies) where there are concerns about the quality of care.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the area of patient safety and provide consultative assistance to individuals or groups as necessary.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $62,670.40 - $100,276.80 Annual


Education: Bachelor's Degree required.

Experience: 5 years of hospital experience in a clinical role required.

Licensure: None required.



Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: (computer work). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
