PC Maintenance Technician

The University of Virginia Bookstore, Cavalier Computer division is seeking a PC Maintenance Technician to perform general maintenance tasks and troubleshoot and repair computer systems and peripheral equipment located throughout the organization. The incumbent troubleshoots and resolves end-user problems and ensures correct operation of personal computers. They address complex problems and will use experience and judgment in selecting among authorized procedures, seeking assistance when significant deviations are proposed or when unprecedented problems arise. They assist senior staff in developing approaches to problem-solving and anticipating issues. They may train or provide guidance to less experienced staff members. Their interactions are with fellow team members and coordinating team members; assigned student, faculty, or staff clients; and external vendors or service providers. Incumbent possesses strong customer service skills and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform analytical, technical, and administrative work in the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of new and existing PC/desktop systems consistent with University policy and procedures.
  • Install and configure new PCs and peripheral equipment. Plan and install PC software and equipment upgrades consistent with policy and direction. Relocate PCs and PC equipment as required. Rebuild and recycle new/used equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PC equipment software and configuration problems in such a manner to maintain maximum "uptime" for workstations. Perform repairs on PC hardware. Identify, research, and resolve all technical problems that may occur in the operation of computer systems and software applications.
  • Support Help Desk operations. Receive incoming calls and e-mails for technical support and resolve issues. Document solutions in work order tracking system.
  • Support personal computer processes and provide technical and operational assistance in the use of personal computers and PC software.
  • Assist in management and maintenance of computer and software license records, asset lists, etc.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Please note that this position is "restricted" and based on continued funding and performance.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • At least one year of experience in computer repairs.
  • Knowledge of retail sales or computer technology environment is preferred.

Compensation:
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $15.99 - $17.31/hour. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Position does involve seated work and using a PC, as well as lifting of products.
