Orthopaedic Technologist

Provides musculoskeletal care for patients under the direction of a physician and advanced practice practioners (APPs) as part of an orthopaedic care team. This includes, but is not limited to, patient assessment specific to orthopedic issues; patient education; assistance with the reduction of fractures or dislocations; application and removal of casts, splints or immobilizing devices; traction; wound care; and knowledge of surgical techniques.
  • Under the direction of a physician or APP, apply or remove a variety of casts, splints or orthopaedic devices.
  • Under the direction of a physician or APP, assist with the reduction of dislocations and fractures.
  • Provide wound care, including the application of appropriate sterile and non-sterile dressings, removal of wound closure materials, and care and removal of external fixation devices.
  • Assist physicians and APPs with clinic procedures using accepted aseptic or sterile practices and techniques.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow throughout the clinic experience.
  • Record pertinent patient history as directed by physician, APPs and nursing personnel.
  • Assist in developing and implementing patient/family education related to casting, splinting, orthopaedic devices and wound care.
  • Educate and train residents and staff on casting and/or splinting. Maintain necessary skills and competencies to support the department.
  • Provide for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $15.99 - $24.78 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Experience: 2 years of work experience of direct patient care in a hospital, clinic, provider office or military setting working directly in the musculoskeletal care of orthopaedic patients.
  • Licensure: Required to have current certification as an Orthopaedic Technologist certified by NBCOT or Registered Orthopedic Technologist by ASOP. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires repetitive motion, traveling, standing, reaching, bending, and stooping. Ability to lift/push/pull >100 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, vibrations, blood/body fluids, infectious disease, noise and dust. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
