Nurse Practitioner (Wage)

Responsible for provision of Advanced Practice Provider services, including assessment and management of patients across all clinical settings, (examples: ambulatory clinic, hospital, assisted living facility, skilled nursing facility/nursing home, ambulatory surgery center, and community settings), within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing dependent on specialty.


The Department of Student Health and Wellness seeks a Nurse Practitioner. The nurse practitioner hired for this position will be expected to provide high quality, evidence-based primary health care, including women's health care, to University of Virginia students in compliance with the medical staff bylaws of the Department of Student Health and Wellness. Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills are required. Patient care activities may include supervision and instruction of UVA Health system trainees as they participate in clinical rotations in Medical Services. This will include one-on-one teaching, oversight of patient care, and providing feedback.

Nurse practitioners may be required to perform other duties as assigned and may be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing the full spectrum of health care services to include health promotion, disease prevention, health protection, anticipatory guidance, counseling, and disease management.
  • Assessing, diagnosing, and treating minor illnesses, and managing chronic health problems.
  • Assessing and evaluating vague or ill-defined symptoms in adolescents and adults.
  • Developing a plan of care based on assessment, which includes prescribing appropriate medications and treatments, providing follow-up care, and evaluating effectiveness of care.
  • Analyzing the multiple effects of pharmacologic agents, including over-the-counter preparations.
  • Diagnosing commonly occurring acute and chronic, multi-symptom health problems.
  • Promoting self-care by adolescent and adult patients.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate degree in nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Virginia Nurse Practitioner license by time of hire
  • Virginia Prescriptive authority by time of hire
  • DEA license or DEA license eligible
  • Certification as a family nurse practitioner
  • Two years or more clinical experience practicing as nurse practitioner.

The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. This position will also require an Education Verification, Drug and Health Screens. (PLAKA)

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate degree in nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse
Experience: Two years or more clinical experience practicing as nurse practitioner.
Licensure: License to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.


COVID Vaccination Requirement

Due to the scope of President Biden's Executive Order 14042 issued in early September, all University employees, including remote employees, must receive their final vaccination dose by January 4, 2022, unless they have a University-approved religious or medical exemption. The University has updated policy SEC-045 to reflect these new requirements.

If hired by the Academic Division, excluding School of Medicine, School of Nursing, UVA Physicians Group, and the Health Systems Library, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination or be willing to be vaccinated by January 4, 2022.
