Non-Therapeutic Clinical Research Team Manager

The manager of the non-therapeutic clinical research team within the UVA Cancer Center plays an essential role in facilitating research. The manager is responsible for leading a team of clinical research coordinators who enroll patients in the Partners in Discovery: Total Cancer Care protocol which enables our participation in the ORIEN consortium. In addition the team will be engaged in interventional non-therapeutic studies and other non-interventional studies. The manager will focus primarily on planning, developing, managing and directing the non-therapeutic studies in the Cancer Center. They oversee staff management, development and evaluation, as well as resource management. The manager will participate in developing clinical research policies and procedures, and have significant responsibility for the overall functioning and effectiveness of the clinical research.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervising the Clinical Research staff, managing resources and participating in clinical research policy and procedure development.
  • Working within and outside the University, soliciting clinical research opportunities, promoting the University's resource capabilities and managing affiliate institutions.
  • Implementing protocols and on-going quality review of clinical research.
  • Preparing research protocols and consent documentation and designing source documents and case report forms.
  • Hiring, training, and managing teams including scheduling, workload management, compensation, rewards, development and performance management.
  • May perform all duties of a Senior Clinical Research Coordinator, as needed, but primary focus of job is management of clinical trials.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Non-licensed possess a bachelor's degree, and licensed managers have at least an associate's degree
  • Experience: At least six years of progressively responsible clinical research experience including clinical trials budgeting, managing clinical trials protocols and training staff.
  • Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Clinical Research Associate (CCRA) is required. Related master's degree with significant work experience may substitute, with certification required within one year of eligibility.


Before a formal offer of employment is extended, the selected candidate will undergo a background check per university policy. This is a restricted position, continuation beyond 1 year will depend on continuing funding and successful performance in the role.


Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
