NICU Clinical Research Coordinator - Varying Levels

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator to support the clinical research studies in the Division of Neonatology. The individual will be responsible for assisting principal investigators in conducting NIH and industry clinical trials in close collaboration with the neonatology team, including faculty, nursing and staff. Current major studies involve delivery room resuscitation, aerosolized surfactant, infection prevention and interventions to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants. Responsibilities will include consenting and enrolling patients, data and sample collections, ensuring IRB and other regulatory compliance requirements are met, and all aspects of the trials are accomplished. This position is open to applicants at any level and details for those qualifying for intermediate and senior levels are detailed below.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Clinical Research Coordinator 2 – Non-Licensed

  • Education: Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. Four years of clinical research experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: At least one year of clinical research experience. Some experience in a healthcare setting and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Licensure: None

 

Clinical Research Coordinator 2 – Licensed

  • Education: Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred. Nursing diploma may substitute for associate's degree for licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Experience: At least one year of clinical research experience.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice in clinical profession such as (but not limited to): Registered Nurse, athletic training, pharmacology, medical technology, physical therapy or Registered Respiratory Therapist.

 

Clinical Research Coordinator 3 – Non-Licensed

  • Education: Associate's degree required; bachelor's or master's degree preferred. Five or more years of clinical research experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience required. Master's degree may substitute for 1 year of clinical research experience.
  • Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) is preferred at the time of hire and is required within one year.

 

Clinical Research Coordinator 4 – Non-Licensed

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least seven years of clinical research experience demonstrating progressive levels of responsibility and complexity of work. Master's or other advanced degree may substitute for one year of clinical research experience.
  • Licensure: Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and/or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) is preferred at the time of hire and is required within one year.

 

The successful applicant will have the ability to manage multiple clinical trials simultaneously and have exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with NICU faculty, parents of NICU infants, NICU staff and the clinical research staff in the Department of Pediatrics. The ability to work a flexible schedule, when needed; off-hours work can be required depending on the nature of the NICU clinical trials open to enrollment.

 

A demonstrated working knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA and DHHS regulations, clinical trial budgeting and financial management, as well as proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel), are required. Experience with various electronic data capture systems, such as Medrio, Medidata Rave, REDCap and OnCore, is desirable.

 

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance. Priority review of applications will begin on November 4, 2021, but the positions will remain open until filled.
