MolMart Lab Specialist

The MolMart Core in the Office of Research Core Administration is seeking a full time Laboratory Specialist or Intermediate. The successful candidate will provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of the core. The incumbent will be responsible for placing orders for supplies and materials through UVA Marketplace, unboxing and storing items when they arrive, assisting core customers with inquiries, special orders, billing questions and utilize the core's iLab store module and billing systems. The selected candidate will be expected to generate and manage the core budget as well as negotiating prices of supplies offered to internal investigators.

The MolMart Core provides on-site reagents and supplies at the University of Virginia at contract prices without shipping or eVA fees. As the supplier to internal investigators, the Core is able to provide lab supplies at reduced costs and is responsible for handling special orders as a convenience to researchers. This position is expected to staff the core Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and will report to the Business Manager.

Position requires a Bachelor's in Business or Science or equivalent experience. Experience is expected in inventory management, price negotiation and budgeting. Experience working in a lab with knowledge of reagents and lab supplies preferred. Must have knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook. Ideally the candidate will have a working knowledge of iLab and Oracle as well as the ability to learn new systems. The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds.

 

Position duties include but is not limited to:

  • Coordinate inventory control and storage.
  • Place orders through UVA Marketplace.
  • Complete receiving of packing slips in iLab billing system.
  • Match deliveries to purchase orders and store items within facilities.
  • Ensure that fixed assets within all core facilities are accurate.
  • Prepare and issue all purchase requisitions and purchase orders necessary to support maintenance and housekeeping operations.
  • Send, receive, pick up, deliver, load, unload boxes, inspect quality of and ensure correct quantities of inventory items.
  • Prepare periodic analyses of stock utilization trends and expenses.
  • Interact with customers and provide excellent customer service.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties will be assigned as needed.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Three years of experience. Six years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
