The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applications for a Medical Office Assistant position. The Department of Anesthesiology participates in over 60,000 surgical procedures spread across the University Health System. This position provides administrative support in the Anesthesia Department to faculty, residents and CRNAs. The Medical Office Assistant position is the primary point of contact in the Anesthesiology OR office and is responsible for office support to faculty, coordinating the collection of signatures, identifying meeting locations, managing office supplies, ordering catering and managing medical equipment (e.g., radiation badges, voceras).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as the point of contact for office by professionally greeting departmental and medical center staff.
  • Maintain office files and supplies.
  • Promptly answer telephone calls, screen calls and respond to routine questions in accordance with instructions of medical professional personnel.
  • Operate general office machines and use computer applications, such as word processing, copy machines, calculators and transcription equipment.
  • Monitor a calendar of appointments for one or more medical professional personnel, preparing materials and bringing pertinent items and dates to attention as requested.
  • Organize incoming and outgoing mail and document in a timely fashion.
  • Perform other related administrative duties as needed.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: None.
  • Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $15.84 - $18.50 per hour ($32,947 - $38,480 per annum), depending on abilities and experience.

This position will remain open until filled. This is a non-exempt-level, benefited position. This is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.

The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
