The Department of Radiation Oncology in the School of Medicine seeks a full-time Medical Dosimetrist to work in a team-oriented environment with three other dosimetrists, seven radiation oncologists and six medical physicists. The incumbent is expected to independently create treatment plans that conform to a physician's prescription. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating, documenting and QA of patient treatment plans, as well as participating in brachytherapy dosimetry. Qualified candidates must be progressive in staying abreast of new treatment planning approaches/techniques and willing to assist in change and growth of the dosimetry area.
Candidates must be MDCB board-certified or exam-eligible and certified within three years of hire. Applicants should have training and/or experience with 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT and electron beam treatment planning.
Our main campus, the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, has a Varian TrueBeam linac, a TomoTherapy-HD, a Siemens CT and an image-guided brachytherapy suite with a CT-on-rails. Our satellite facility, Moser Radiation Therapy Center, has a Varian Trilogy and our Culpeper site has a TomoTherapy-HD. External beam treatment planning is carried out on Philips Pinnacle3 and TomoTherapy. The department has the Varian BrachyVision treatment planning system for our active HDR & LDR brachytherapy programs.
Required Skills Include:
Ability to understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to derive computerized treatment plans, and the ability to communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist for plan approval and to the Radiation Therapist for plan implementation.
Ability to perform routine duties independent of supervision, consulting with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as required.
Working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Ability to independently interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.
Mathematical and anatomy skills with the ability to visualize objects in three-dimensional concepts to facilitate the treatment planning process.
Ability to operate and perform quality assurance, under the direction of the Medical Physicist, on the treatment planning computer.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
Priority review of applications will begin on November 5, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.
Education: Graduation from an approved medical dosimetry/radiation therapy program or formal training in medical dosimetry.
Experience: One year of experience in medical dosimetry if not graduate of an accredited medical dosimetry training program.
Licensure: Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) is required within three years of hire.
