Medic Transfer Coordinator

Responsible for the intake and logistics of facilitating outside hospital requests for patient transfer into the University of Virginia Medical Center. Tasks include identification and triage of calls to appropriate service lines, communication with accepting physicians, coordination with UVA's Medical Transport dispatch, coordination with the UVA Bed Center, and serving as the primary liaison between referring facilities and UVA physicians, nursing and ancillary staff in order to facilitate a safe and efficient patient transfer.
  • Serves as front-line liaison between outside referring facility customers and the UVA Medical Center.
  • Understands and properly uses all communication equipment and programs.
  • Maintains a positive and professional work environment.
  • Identifies potential areas for improved operations and care.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $16.97 - $26.30 Hourly

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required. Graduation from a certified Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate education program is required. Associate's degree in EMT-Paramedic or a bachelor's degree in communications, emergency services or health sciences is preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years of experience at the intermediate or Paramedic level within a high-volume career or volunteer EMS system or 3 years of experience within the hospital setting.
  • Licensure: Must maintain current Virginia EMT-P Virginia EMT-I, National Registry NRP or National Registry NREMT-I certification(s). Must maintain current AHA Healthcare Provider BLS certification and certifications in ACLS and PALS. Certifications in PHTLS ATLS and/or AMLS preferred.

Sitting for prolonged periods, frequently utilizing a computer and phone system, typing and multi-tasking. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull <20 lbs. The job setting is a high-stress environment that is prone to high-capacity sensory stimulation.
