Linux and Storage Engineer

UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks a Linux and Storage Engineer in the Storage, Backup, and Archive team.

This position is responsible for:

  • Provisioning, troubleshooting, and upgrading enterprise storage for departments and end-users.
  • Triaging complex problems referred from the general Help Desk.
  • Monitoring performance and availability of complex systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of Linux servers and storage systems
  • Participation in an on-call rotation.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Linux system administration experience.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Working understanding of NFS and SMB sharing.
  • Some experience with large storage systems (NetApp, Dell Isilon/PowerScale, Pure, HPE Nimble, etc.).
  • Working understanding of TCP/IP networking.
  • Ability to work independently and to work as part of a small technical team.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a large enterprise IT environment, preferably higher education
  • Experience with enterprise backup system(s) (Veeam, Cohesity, Rubrik, Veritas Netbackup, etc.)
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (Shell, Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud environments
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Blackboard, and/or other Enterprise help desk systems

Anticipated hiring range : $90,000 - $100,000
