The University of Virginia Student Health and Wellness Center invites Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to apply for a full-time position. LPNs are responsible for carrying out patient care in accordance with physicians' orders under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse in charge. They administer prescribed medications and treatments, observe and record effects of medications, and observe and report patient reactions to treatments or any unusual conditions. Work is largely routine and done according to established protocols, with some supervision.

Typical duties:

Without Supervision:

  • Establishes priorities and provides direction to the CNA regarding issues of patient flow in an assigned module.
  • Administers p.o., injectable medications, and immunizations ordered by care providers.
  • Performs treatments (ear irrigations, inhalation therapy, wound care) ordered by care providers.
  • Obtains vital signs necessary for initial and ongoing patient assessment.
  • Evaluates and reevaluates patient status for patients in assigned appointments.
  • Performs patient teaching in preparation for discharge.
  • Brings emergency cases or issues to the immediate attention of the care provider.
  • Assumes responsibility for various clinical duties. May include: sterile processing of instruments, ordering of supplies, medications or linen, collection of data for ongoing quality monitoring.

 

With Supervision:

  • Works in conjunction with the Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, and care providers to optimize overall clinic flow.
  • Assists with patients undergoing procedures (suturing, incision, and drainage/insertion of IVs).
  • Monitoring of patients undergoing continuous intravenous therapy.
  • Monitoring of patients under continuous observation level care.
  • Assists with immunization & travel clinics.

 

The salary range for this position is $24.00-$27.00 per hour. Employees new to University employment are eligible for a $2,500.00 sign on bonus with a one-year commitment. This is an overtime eligible position with UVa benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High school diploma with at least one year of experience as an LPN.
  • Licensure: Practical Nursing license and CPR certification

Job may require standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 20-50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
