The Lead Advanced Practice Provider is a clinical expert and administrative leader who will provide oversight of the Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within their group in provision of the organization, service line, and departmental missions. This role is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of advanced health providers in patient care, research, education, professionalism, and regulatory compliance.
They will be accountable for human resource needs, workforce planning, and development of staffing models, orientation, onboarding, professional development, employee engagement and satisfaction, budget planning, and partnership between clinical service / service line and UVAHS leadership.
They will work closely with service line Chiefs and Medical Directors to assure effective and timely implementation of operational initiatives. Additionally, the Lead APP will have direct responsibility for the APPs across the continuum, integrating the boundaries of setting or entity.
The Lead APP will maintain an exemplary practice that devotes 66-75% of time to clinical responsibilities and 25-33% of time to administrative oversight depending on the number of direct reports.

Position Compensation Range: $98,841.60 to $158,142.40 Annually

  • Master’s Degree as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)
  • One to two years minimum experience as an Advanced Practice Provider: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia. 
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of the UVA Medical Center, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and the appropriate certifying bodies. 
  • Must be enrolled with all payers through Delegated Credentialing and can participate in Medicaid and Medicare for billing. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. 
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required specific to position. 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required.
As part of a collaborative team, your clinical duties will include:
  • The assessment, diagnosis and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribing and recommending pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
  • Initiating appropriate specialty consultations referrals when requisite
  • Initiating and evaluating clinical pathways and protocols
  • Consulting with other members of the healthcare team when appropriate.
  • Instructing patients and family members regarding treatment.
In addition to your clinical duties, you will be expected to:
  • Act as a clinical resource, utilizing both formal and informal opportunities to educate other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide education consistent with evidence-based practices and protocols
  • Precept APP students and provides mentoring for other APPs
  • Provide outreach and education to the community and within the Advanced Practice arena
  • Coordinate meeting applicable educational standards for all disciplines in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members
  • Assume a leadership role in developing the Advanced Practice Role to patients, families, other healthcare professionals and the community.
  • Participate in, support and lead quality assurance initiatives, performance improvement, benchmarking initiatives to advance patient care delivery
  • Utilize research and Evidence-Based practice in the delivery of patient care
  • Pursue opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidence-based practice
  • Coordinate meeting applicable research standards for all disciplines and areas of practice
  • Maintain professional licensure, DEA registration (as applicable), certification and practice agreements as required by the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, national certification organizations, and the institution
  • Maintain and demonstrate competencies for designated privileges requested as required for ongoing professional practice evaluation and outcomes
  • Maintain Advanced certification(s)
  • Pursue educational opportunities for professional growth (CEU/CME, conferences, seminars, etc.)
  • Serve on appropriate committees in department/division/institution and community
  • Participate in/present at M&M meetings, Grand Rounds, etc.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking/bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs.  May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
