The Beirne B. Carter Immunology Research Center is currently seeking a Laboratory Tech 2, Lab Specialist, Lab Specialist – Intermediate, or Specialist – Senior to participate in studies with a large focus on immunology in models of transfusion and transplantation, including autoimmunity.

The lab functions as a team effort and only those who are willing to actively engage with a group of scientists as a productive team player will function well in this position. Intellectual engagement is required as well; those seeking to know, grow, understand and learn will be best suited to this position. The individual should be self-guided and creative in seeking possible solutions to experimental/design challenges at hand.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Participate in research work involving animals, including animal husbandry and experimentation.
  • Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments.
  • Analyze and organize data.
  • Prepare reagents.
  • Maintain stock solutions.
  • Order and maintain the appropriate level of supplies.
  • Lab Specialist – Intermediate and Lab Specialist – Senior roles may supervise research support personnel and manage budgets.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualified candidates must have:

Lab Tech 2:
  • Education: Associate's degree.
  • Experience: At least two years of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.

Lab Specialist:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Three years of experience. Six years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Lab Specialist – Intermediate:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Six years of experience in a lab technician role. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. Nine years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Lab Specialist – Senior:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Master's or terminal degree preferred.
  • Experience: 9 years of experience in a lab technician role. May substitute with master's or terminal degree plus four years of experience in a lab technician role and supervisory experience. 12 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with flow cytometry, PCR, western blotting, and/or recombinant DNA
  • Experience in animal research

Physical Demands:
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation.
