The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Specialist to perform and assist with laboratory management and experimental procedures in the laboratory of Dr. Alban Gaultier.

The role of this position will be to perform and assist with experiments in a laboratory setting. The duties will include performing technical assays, maintaining cell cultures, assisting with animal experiments, maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering lab supplies, and providing experimentation recordkeeping. May supervise student/wage staff as needed. Animal handling is required for this position.

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation.

Qualified candidates must have:
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, or related science.
  • Experience: Three years of experience working in a laboratory setting, which may include experience gained while a student.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
