The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a Laboratory Specialist or Laboratory Specialist Intermediate to perform cell/molecular biological experiments on cancer cells, immune cells, and patient blood and tissues in Dr. Dolatshahi's laboratory. This position serves as research specialist, performing cell culture, processing patient samples, biochemical and microscopy experiments, primary cell isolation, and analysis of data for publication. Duties also include management of lab supplies and equipment. The successful candidate will participate as part of a collaborative research team which combines experimental and computational methods to identify fundamental mechanisms of immune regulation and dysregulation, with an ultimate objective of identifying strategies to design and improve vaccines and immunotherapies. The incumbent will be mentored by Dr. Dolatshahi of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and receive training in cellular biology experiments.
This position is restricted and contingent upon the continuation of funding.

Minimum Requirements for Laboratory Specialist Intermediate:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Experience: At least six years of experience in a lab technician/specialist role. Master's degree may substitute for part of this required experience.

Minimum Requirements for Laboratory Specialist:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Experience: At least three years of experience, which may include experience gained while a student.
