Laboratory Specialist

The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Specialist to perform and assist with laboratory management and experimental procedures in Dr. Elise Cope's laboratory. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the lab's animal colony, assisting in animal experiments, conducting immunohistochemical procedures, ordering lab supplies, maintaining lab equipment and helping to train undergraduate students.

Candidates who have research experience with rodent models, histology and confocal microscopy are preferred. The successful candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills and be a self-starter with strong attention to details. Qualified candidates should also possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

Priority review of applications will begin on December 16, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, or relevant field.
  • Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Physical Demands:
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation.
