The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism is currently seeking a Laboratory Specialist – Intermediate to provide advanced scientific and technical support for laboratory-based clinical research. The incumbent's responsibilities will include equipment maintenance, general lab organization, blood processing and flow sheet creation for protocols in the Clinical Research Unit. The technician negotiates with vendors for renewal of service contracts and pricing of new equipment within their assigned limit of authority and is responsible for maintenance of equipment inventory and arranging disposal of surplus equipment. This position is responsible for training other laboratory technologists as required in biochemical, molecular biologic and imaging methodologies and for troubleshooting equipment malfunction. In addition, this position will assist the PI with environmental health and safety compliance. The applicant must demonstrate experience in working with mass spectrometry and HPLC and know how to troubleshoot. Should be able to work independently with some guidance from PIs. Incumbent must have strong knowledge of mass spectrometry technology, how to utilize and analyze samples using HPLC technology, and advanced understanding of general lab practices.

This position is restricted and contingent upon continued funding.

The successful candidate will pass a criminal background check and pre-employment health screening.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in related science.
  • Experience: At least six years of experience. Master's degree in related field may substitute for required experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in biochemistry or organic chemistry MA or PhD preferred.
