The Democracy Initiative and the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences invite applications for a new Lab/Project Manager position. The Democracy Initiative is an ambitious interdisciplinary teaching, research and engagement effort bringing together a diverse range of scholars, journalists, policymakers and practitioners in a range of fields to study and advance the prospects of democracy around the world. The Democracy Labs promote faculty and student research, teaching and public engagement. The person hired into this position will work with the Repair Lab, which seeks to understand the relationship between racial injustice and climate change and to deepen our understanding of the causes, consequences and countermeasures of environmental and climate injustice locally and around the world.
The Lab/Project Manager will support the work of the Repair Lab, as well as additional special projects as assigned. After the Repair Lab work concludes in 2024, the Lab/Project Manager can continue in the role and be assigned to a newly selected Lab. Additional project management beyond the labs may include event curation, assisting with internal and external communication efforts, managing lab/project selection processes, and working with UVA and external partners to amplify the work of the Democracy Initiative.
The Lab/Project Manager will work independently but in coordination with the Director for Academic Affairs and the faculty directors of the Repair Lab to develop and manage the labs' programs. The manager is responsible for project management, fiscal administration, communications, grants application and administration, event planning and other administrative functions. The successful candidate will be committed to the promotion of research and scholarship on democracy.
