Junior Network Engineer

UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Junior Network Engineer for the CIO/Enterprise Infrastructure Academic Network group. This position is responsible for managing and configuring network elements and systems and performing standard troubleshooting activities. They will work with Senior Network Engineers to learn how to troubleshoot more complicated problems, use performance and fault monitoring systems, and learn the processes of proactive network management. On-call engineering duties are also part of the job. The mission and goal of the academic networks team is to provide highly reliable, modern, and secure network connectivity to UVA faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • 2 years of hands-on network experience, preferably in a large-scale higher education network.
  • Basic network certification, including TCP/IP based protocols, various routing types, Layer 2, DNS, Windows, and Linux server uses of networking.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and inclusive.
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently.

Anticipated hiring range: $60,000 - $70,000

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, computer engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience: None. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
