The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks an
Instructional Technologist and Assessments Specialist to support Darden's residential and professional degree programs. This role supports faculty, staff and students across our residential and professional degree programs to use Canvas (and occasionally Blackboard), implement assessments and integrate instructional technologies.
This position is a part of the Instructional Design team and works closely with the Academic Operations and Digital Solutions and Integrations teams. The Instructional Technology and Assessment Implementation Specialist is a detail-oriented problem solver who excels in providing superb customer service, helping others with technology and balancing team and independent work.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Support of learning management systems (LMS) as a tool for course delivery and student learning.

Collaborate with the Instructional Design team to support faculty and Academic Operations Coordinators (AOCs) with the technical aspects of LMS course implementation, including training, building courses and advising on custom course needs.

Monitor and facilitate daily Canvas operations, including troubleshooting and tracking Canvas issues in coordination with the Online Operations Specialist on the Instructional Design team.

Partner as needed with the Digital Solutions and Integrations team to support Canvas administrative needs, including course availability on a quarterly basis, enrollments, term dates, copying and cross-listing sites, developing reports for user analytics, LTI integrations and APIs.

Communicate to various stakeholders about new features, updates and changes to Canvas and supported LTIs.

Support transferring existing courses from Blackboard to Canvas.

Represent Darden's interests in the Canvas Business School Advisory Counsel and provide periodic updates to enterprise stakeholders.

Provide occasional evening and weekend Canvas support in coordination with Canvas Tier 1 support.
Support of LMS as faculty tool for assessments, final deliverables and exams.

Partner with a variety of Darden teams (Academic Operations, Student Affairs, Digital Solutions and Integrations) to facilitate successful exam experiences for all stakeholders (faculty, students, support teams).

Prior to exam period, support Darden faculty members and AOCs in building and administering assessments, including mid-course quizzes, final exams and other deliverables via Canvas.

During exam period, monitor and respond to student tickets, fixing issues and communicating with faculty as needed.

After exam period ends, generate reports for faculty, resolve outstanding issues and respond to faculty needs as they grade exams and other deliverables.

Provide occasional evening and weekend exam support during exam periods.
Support adoption and implementation of instructional technologies.

Collaborate with the Instructional Design and Digital Solutions and Integrations teams to research, recommend and implement effective and accessible educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

Apply knowledge of learning technologies and environments to the design of high-quality learning experiences across delivery modalities (in person and synchronous or asynchronous online) and platforms (Canvas, Coursera, Blackboard).

Document instructional technologies (how-to guides, workflows) in user-friendly language and provide training as needed to support usage.

Provide technical support for tool implementation and usage, including troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Contribute to the development of tool assessment, adoption, implementation and review processes, including ensuring accessibility.

Engage in ongoing research and review of innovations in learning technology to share with the team.
Professional Experience and Education:

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in instructional technology, education technology, instructional design or a related field.

Minimum of two years of experience in learning technology and learning management support (Canvas strongly, Blackboard appreciated). Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience working in higher education preferred.

Familiarity with a variety of learning technologies and tools, such as Feedback Fruits, Hypothesis, Kaltura, Peerceptiv, SeatGen, Teams and VoiceThread.

Motivated and enthusiastic about developing technology skills, learning software applications and taking on projects independently and as a team.

Proficient with Microsoft suite (Office 365, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Teams) and Zoom.
