The Employee Relations Specialist supports the University of Virginia Physicians Group mission by providing comprehensive employee relations related services to a population of over 800 administrative and healthcare team members supporting the corporate office in Charlottesville, VA, the UVA Medical Center and the UPG Clinical Practice Groups located across Virginia.

The Employee Relations Specialist position is a vital role designed to provide best in class ER support to team members. This position is responsible for providing consulting services and serve as a resource for all team members as it relates to policies, procedures, and progressive discipline. Through effective application of policy knowledge, procedural knowledge, creative problem solving, as well as in-depth HR knowledge and experience, this position supports the vision and objectives of the University of Virginia Physicians Group and its variety of faculty, staff and team members.

  • Coordinates employee relations programs to ensure compliance with policies and practices.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures in areas such as grievance procedures and exit interviews.
  • Ensures policies and procedures and the interpretation of these policies comply with all applicable federal state and local laws.
  • Researches and partners with management to respond to employee concerns and grievances.
  • Documents and maintains employee relations records.
  • Coordinates employee development programs with OD consultant and/or HR Business Partners.
  • Provides ER training to managers/supervisors (both current and new). To include, but not limited to, crucial conversations, employee development, and standards of performance processes.
  • Completes team climate surveys as needed and provides recommendations to leadership for next steps.
  • Participates on UPG Policy Committee as a subject matter expert when needed.
  • Conducts workplace investigations as needed.
  • Plans staffing strategies and consulting on RIF.
  • Serves as Grievance Process contact and facilitator.
  • Advises on the development of employee documentation up to termination recommendations.
  • Provides Conflict Resolution tools and Mediation.
  • Advises on progressive disciplinary process and/or terminations.
  • Receives and manages ADA accommodation requests
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
Experience: 2 years relevant experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.


COVID Vaccination Requirement

Due to the scope of President Biden's Executive Order 14042 issued in early September, all University employees, including remote employees, must receive their final vaccination dose by January 4, 2022, unless they have a University-approved religious or medical exemption. The University has updated policy SEC-045 to reflect these new requirements.

If hired by the Academic Division, excluding School of Medicine, School of Nursing, UVA Physicians Group, and the Health Systems Library, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination or be willing to be vaccinated by January 4, 2022. Academic employees may apply for a University-approved medical or religious exemption.
