The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking applications for a Help Desk Technician. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, providing first- and second-tier technical support services to faculty, staff and students to ensure timely problem resolution, system data access and optimal experience. Provide support for desktop, mobile and cloud-based technology and systems. Provide basic support for audio-visual technology and learning management systems, and route advanced support requests as needed. Provide non-technical guidance (directory assistance, lost and found, etc.) as needed.

The Help Desk Technician will provide courteous and helpful customer service to faculty, staff, students and guests at the McIntire School of Commerce.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, MIS, computer engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in an IT support role. Significant relevant IT support experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree, provided that evidence exists of a commitment to continuous self-development.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot with both Mac and PC computers, printers and classroom A/V equipment.
  • Experience supporting remote users.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to handle competing priorities and multitask.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to assist faculty, staff and students with varying levels of technical knowledge.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings and programs.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check prior to their first day of employment per University policy.

The anticipated hourly rate is: $20.00 - $24.00/hour.
