Help Desk Analyst, Student Health and Wellness

The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health and Wellness is seeking a Help Desk Analyst. The Help Desk Analyst provides consultative and technical support services to faculty, staff, and students to ensure timely problem resolution, system/data access, and optimal system performance. They provide support for desktop, mobile computing, and client/server technology. They address routine problems and use judgment in selecting among authorized procedures. They work under immediate supervision with minimal latitude for unreviewed actions/decisions, seeking assistance when guidelines are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or when unanticipated problems arise. They have no direct reports and their interactions are primarily within their work teams, although they may have interactions with assigned student, faculty, or staff clients.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing technical support to the University community to resolve first tier common desktop software, hardware, and communications issues in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Accurately documenting request history.
  • Triaging and routing second and third tier requests to the appropriate technical personnel.
  • Providing timely resolution of problem or escalation on behalf of the user by maintaining strong working relationships with IT professionals in areas such as network services, software systems engineering, and application development.
  • Providing high-quality customer service through courteous and professional communication.
  • Supporting and maintaining effective relationships with consistent follow-up and documentation.
  • Performing system upgrades and new system deployments when needed.
  • Providing basic application and system training for users.
  • Assisting in the development of standard operating procedures and customer service guidelines.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The selected applicant will pass a background check and a health and drug screen. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, computer engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience: Less than one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
