The Echocardiographer Sonographer acts independently and is responsible for providing diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures to pediatric patients in an outpatient setting.
  • Clinical assessment and diagnostic cardiac ultrasound and related examinations are performed as directed.
  • Independent judgment is consistently exhibited during the exam to accurately identify normal and abnormal images and differentiate between the pathologic findings.
  • Diagnostic echocardiograph studies, laboratory results, patient history and medical records are integrated. The echocardiograph examination is adapted as necessary.
  • Responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the Echocardiographer Sonographer's control.
  • Analyze diagnostic information to provide a summary of findings for physicians.
  • All required documentation for each procedure, including report and encounter forms, is understood and completed.
  • Communication with the patient and the healthcare team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and pediatric patients' needs, as appropriate.
  • Ultrasound equipment, work area and adequate supplies are known and maintained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Education: Must meet the education requirement for diagnostic medical ultrasound or echocardiography ultrasound certification with either ARDMS or CCI. Associate's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Two years of clinical experience required.
  • License/Certification: Credentials from ARDMS as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), CCI as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS). American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive). Repetitive motion: manipulation of ultrasound transducer. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and disease.
