POSITIONS LOCATED IN CITY OF RICHMOND, GOOCHLAND COUNTY, HANOVER COUNTY, HENRICO COUNTY, NEW KENT COUNTY, POWHATAN COUNTY, CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, CHARLES CITY, and CITY OF COLONIAL HEIGHTS

The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for data collector positions to collect data in pre-kindergarten classrooms in and around Richmond, VA. Data collectors will collect data for a new partnership project with the Virginia Department of Education that aims to design, pilot, and evaluate an early childhood mental health consultation (ECMHC) model. Work activities will be intermittent but will generally require up to an estimated 25 hours/week during four 3- to 4-week data collection windows in the fall of 2021 (November - December), winter 2022 (approximately February - March), spring of 2022 (approximately May), and summer of 2022 (late July - August).

Responsibilities:

• Conduct observations within preschool classrooms
• Data entry, data uploading, and ensuring data integrity
• Collect paper surveys and forms as needed
• Conduct interviews and focus groups

Qualifications:

• A high school diploma is required, as is one year of experience performing direct work with children in an educational setting or an out-of-school setting (such as a summer camp or an after-school program).
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; strong organization skills and attention to detail; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population are essential.
• Ability to use and troubleshoot technology is required. In addition, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word), use of the internet, proficiency with laptops, tablets and/or PCs, and experience uploading/downloading information using cloud storage platforms is required.
• Reliable transportation for traveling between early childhood programs is required.
• Must be able to observe local school/center requirements for entering the building, including requirements related to COVID-19
• A bachelor's degree in Social Science, Education, or a related field, is preferred.

Incumbents must also be able to attend training sessions in late October/early November. Training sessions may include a combination of videoconference and in-person meetings.

Rate of pay for wage data collectors is $17-20/hour, depending on education, experience, and skills.
