Distance Learning Support Technician (Staff Wage)

The Darden School of Business has an opportunity for a part-time (30 hours per week) Distance Learning Support Technician to join its team in Charlottesville, VA. This position provides technical support for our live online learning programs, including our professional degree program's distance learning classes.

Please note this is an hourly wage position and is not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities Include:

Web Conferencing
  • Set up equipment and test for primary and back-up studios.
  • Record and post online classes to the learning management system.
  • Online class support includes live troubleshooting for remote students and faculty instructor and also training for students between class sessions.
  • Sessions may occur up to 6 days/week between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. from Monday through Saturday.
  • Proactively review software and hardware to seek ways to continually enhance the student and faculty experience.
  • Provide training to faculty in one-on-one sessions.

IT Support
  • Continually monitor and update studio and technician hardware and software.
  • Identify technologies that can make current infrastructure more efficient or could enhance future experiences.
  • Gather valuable feedback from our diverse clientele to see how technology improvements can offer solutions to current challenges.

The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment (SPAKA).

Professional Experience and Education:
  • High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience, preferably supporting A/V equipment and online conferencing software.
  • Ability to setup/troubleshoot professional audio video equipment.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting Windows/Mac operating systems and mobile platforms.
  • Ability to type a minimum 40 words per minute.
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills. The ability to communicate and teach technical features to a non-technical audience is critical.
  • Ability to manage multiple tech support conversations simultaneously.
  • Quickly learn and implement new technology processes and techniques.
  • Adeptly provide unique and/or creative solutions utilizing both technical abilities and project management.

Hourly rate: $25.00
