The University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science seeks an experienced and accomplished Director of Corporate Relations. The ideal candidate will have experience developing industry partnerships in a higher education setting that yield support for research, teaching, innovation, operations, student recruitment and more.

The Director will lead corporate efforts in Engineering and serve as liaison between the School and University partners to identify and cultivate funding prospects. The Director joins a highly integrated and collaborative advancement team pursuing ambitious fundraising goals amid the University's multi-billion dollar Honor the Future campaign. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to make a valuable contribution in support of the academic and research missions of UVA Engineering.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Corporate Relations will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of national and Virginia-based companies, matching industry with key initiatives, programs, areas of research, facilities and equipment needs, as well as recruitment, School and program-level advisory positions, and other industry-related activities.

The Director of Corporate Relations will:

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive short-term and long-term strategy for corporate engagement, philanthropy, and partnership alongside School leaders.
• Develop strategic partnerships requiring sometimes complex structuring, collaborating and negotiating to achieve organizational objectives.
• Create an annual plan for corporate partners based on a relationship continuum that includes key leadership champion(s), cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for holistic engagement, including student recruitment, research, alumni cultivation and philanthropy.
• Advise and train faculty and staff on building successful corporate relationships.
• Build strong internal relationships and serve as a central hub for understanding Engineering corporate relationships across the institution.
• Work with School and University partners to author and submit compelling proposals, briefings and reports to corporate partners.
• Conduct visits to build relations with corporate prospects and leverage Engineering leadership and faculty when appropriate.
• Assess existing corporate relationships to ensure alignment with overall corporate engagement strategy and School priorities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a proven ability to grasp complex subjects, a demonstrated attention to detail, and the capacity to balance both strategic and tactical responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to meet deadlines; solve difficult problems both collaboratively and independently; and be creative, analytical and adaptable. A bachelor's degree and at least four years of related work experience in fundraising, business development or a related field is required; background in corporate relations preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with eight years of experience.
