Director, Outpatient Surgery Sites

Directs the day-to-day operations of the UVA Outpatient Surgery Center, Monticello Community Surgery Center and The Orthopedics Center at Ivy Road perioperative areas. Provides consultation, assistance and communication for the entire range of the served patient population. Demonstrates involvement in the provision of care to patients and their families, continuous quality improvement, customer service, resource and financial management, efficient and effective system processes, and professional development of staff.
  • Provides daily leadership and management to the UVA Outpatient Surgery Center, Monticello Community Surgery Center and The Orthopedics Center at Ivy Road perioperative areas in collaboration with the nursing leadership team and medical directors.
  • Develops and supports all team members including, but not limited to, registered nurses, scrub technicians, patient care assistants and technicians, surgical support technicians, lithotripsy technicians and related administrative staff.
  • Accurately forecasts and manages budget for the sites, and ensures that any expenditures are within the budget. Knowledge of related benchmarks, such as worked hours per unit of service (WHPUOS).
  • Develops programs that address continuous quality improvement, system enhancement, streamlined processes and overall performance.
  • Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the sites.
  • Ensures that the highest quality of nursing care is provided to patients and their families.
  • Develops and manages partnerships with clinicians, physicians and administrative/support counterparts to achieve common goals.
  • Promotes integration of multidisciplinary work groups.
  • Manages recruitment performance and retention activities of assigned staff.
  • Provides oversight for areas of responsibility and guidance for the leaders of the work units. Determines the need for and priority of allocation of human, space, fiscal and material resources.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $115,793.60 - $185,265.60 Annually

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program. Master's degree in related field within 4 years of hire.
  • Experience: 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in a perioperative environment.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. BLS certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Strongly Preferred: Applicable specialty certification strongly preferred at hire or within 3 years.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
