Director, Ambulatory Clinical Professional Development

Responsible for leading a centralized approach to nursing and clinical professional development across UVA Health Ambulatory Operations to reflect the mission and values of UVA Health. The Director reports to the Administrator, Ambulatory Nursing (AAN) and coordinates, manages, and provides subject matter expertise in the development and implementation of professional development services across Ambulatory operations. In partnership with the Director of Nursing Professional Development and Research, provides leadership of Ambulatory educational program coordination and implementation of nursing and evidence-based clinical practice initiatives, such as Ambulatory Nurse Residency Program and Ambulatory new hire orientation program. Enhancing interprofessional collaboration with clinical experts, the Director supports the AAN to promote and advance the science of ambulatory care nursing according to the scope and standards of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) and other certifying, licensing, and regulatory bodies of nursing, clinical support, and healthcare specialist staff. Communicates assessment and program outcomes of educational services. The Director oversees and maintains standards for clinical student placement activities and rotations in ambulatory settings. May oversee direct reports serving ambulatory educational and onboarding roles.
  • Ensures an evidence-based approach to educational needs assessment and implementation.
  • Develops and/or oversees an ambulatory competency assessment approach that guides both individual and area-specific education and orientation plans to support effective orientation, lifelong learning, and patient safety.
  • Ensures Ambulatory compliance with accreditation standards and all other regulatory standards related to education impacting nursing and clinical staff.
  • Participates in development of Ambulatory professional development strategic plan and integrates plan with UVA Health priorities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and financial management of educational programs, seeking and recommending opportunities for stewardship.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of ambulatory educational programs in the context of desired clinical service delivery, workforce metrics, and financial outcomes.
  • Integrates appropriate instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs and program learning objectives.
  • Responsible for enhanced use of technological instruction, multimedia simulation learning approaches, and other innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Serves as ambulatory liaison with schools of nursing, vocational, and other instructional partners.
  • Serves as resource for ambulatory educators and leaders.
  • Ensures effective communication flow to and from ambulatory clinics and leaders.

Position Compensation Range: $96,907.20 - $155,043.20 Annually

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Master of Science in Nursing or attainment within 4 years of hire with educational focus preferred.
  • Experience: Five years of progressive clinical leadership experience with strong demonstration of commitment to nursing and clinical professional development; ambulatory experience preferred.
  • Licensure: Current Virginia RN license required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive). Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
