The Laboratory of Dr. Wladek Minor invites applications for a Data Analyst in the Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics Department. This 100% grant-supported, staff-level, one-year renewable position requires the combination of world-class skills in software/algorithm development, bioinformatics and experimental structural biology/protein crystallography. The individual will play a major role in high-profile, cutting-edge NIH-funded research in the area of structural biology and bioinformatics. Must have machine learning (artificial intelligence) experience. Proficiency with Python, Pandas and Django is essential. Familiarity with CheckMyMetal and CheckMyBlob packages is essential.

Data Analysts support efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained. They assist in business and system re-engineering and architecture development. Data Analysts serve as organizational consultants on matters relating to databases and provide expertise across grounds.

The successful applicant must be motivated, independent and highly organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will work on analyzing metal ion and ligand binding sites within macromolecular structures. They will be involved in the development of databases and knowledge systems. A MSc or BS in computer science or equivalent field is required. Some highly demanding industry experience is advantageous.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensure high-quality data is collected for analysis and continually verify integrity of the data.
  • Identify errors and determine the best course of action to correct and prevent errors going forward.
  • Perform analysis of information and identify, interpret and report the trends or patterns found in data sets. Develop recommendations based on findings.
  • Synthesize data analysis by creating graphs, reports and presentations of results in order to make strategic and programmatic decisions.
  • Develop content for seminars, forums and presentations.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

The selected applicant will be required to complete a background check and health screen prior to their first day of employment per university policy.

This is a restricted position and continuation is dependent on the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Priority application review will begin May 31, 2022, but the position will remain open until filled.
