The Content Strategist is an experienced writer, editor, and strategic thinker who thoroughly understands and is adept at writing for digital and print channels. Must have experience creating SEO-informed, consumer-friendly content to help patients, families, and providers navigate services via websites and blogs. Familiarity with a data-driven approach a plus.

This person is adept at applying industry best practices, creative skill, and in-house style to produce content that effectively engages members of various key audiences with a focus on those in the Northern Virginia geographic region.

This content development requires collaboration with stakeholders and team members to translate educational and business goals into meaningful, effective, user-friendly content for social, online newsletters, web pages, print ads, fliers, banners, and blog articles that align with key entry points in the user/patient journey. As a member of the Content team, this role supports publishing efforts through copyediting, quality assurance reviews, and story ideation. The content consistently leads to increased user and patient volumes and engagement and elevates UVA Health's local, regional, and national reputation.

The Content Strategist is responsible for cultivating current and robust fluency in the goals and applications of content strategy to drive data-driven content development. Additionally, this person employs a range of research methods to contribute to an inclusive and in-depth understanding of key audience needs. They use this understanding to determine appropriate tactics that target key entry points in the patient journey. Collaborating with other marketing team members, this person will develop, recommend, and implement plans for generating purposeful and effective content across channels that meet internal requirements and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities include:
  • Serving as primary content resource advocate and strategist for all partners.
  • Working closely with internal constituents to conceive, implement, manage, complete, and deliver content initiatives and editorial processes that align with business strategy.
  • Contributing to an evolving editorial vision and voice ensuring clear, concise, and consistent messaging across channels.
  • Using expertise in SEO, accessibility, readability, and usability to calibrate content to meet user needs to complete top tasks.
  • Advocating for user-friendly design and functionality.
  • Conducting regular analysis of content effectiveness to continuously optimize content.
  • Staying current with platform evolutions, adjusting and applying relevant styles and standards.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, freelance writers, editors, and other partners.
  • Complyng with systems and standards for departmental project management and archive maintenance.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $52,436.80 - $83,907.20 Annually

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or marketing preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years of professional web-writing experience and SEO required.
  • Licensure: None required.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
