University of Virginia's Information Technology Services department seeks a Cloud Applications and Software as a Service (SaaS) Administrator. The Cloud Applications Administrator (CAA) will act as the product manager and administrator of enterprise cloud-based applications provided by central IT and used by University departments, faculty, staff and students.

The CAA and will work in tandem with senior technology analysts on the enterprise license management team to devise provisioning and management methodologies enabling efficient, effective, and compliant delivery of SaaS products such as Qualtrics, Box, DocuSign, Zoom, LogMeIn, Eventbrite, and other industry leading products. The CAA will work with project and operations teams to integrate and support these services, as well as with Enterprise and Infrastructure Systems, Identity Services, and Access Management teams to leverage LDAP and Active Directory data to drive provisioning, entitlement, and deprovisioning processes.

Key activities and responsibilities for the Cloud Application Administrator include:

  • Serve as administrator and access manager for vendor sourced software platforms (Zoom, Box, Qualtrics, CrashPlan, and others):
    • Manage configuration of SaaS systems and portal management toolsets to manage and monitor service operations and parameters to streamline delivery of services to the user community
    • Design and implement scripts, access rules, workflows, and otherwise configure or modify applications and platforms to provide access, ensure compliance and provide detailed reporting
    • Create and maintain system design/configuration documentation
    • Work with vendors at both support and development levels to support operations
    • Support services using published standard and major incident management practices
    • Periodically review policies for accuracy and to respond to entitlement and identity management system changes
    • Monitor and review vendor release notes to detect compatibility or other issues with UVA environment, determine whether new features should be enabled, determine if new settings need additional reviews or approvals
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to:
    • Design and implement data feeds\\interfaces with other systems, including databases, monitoring tools, LDAP, etc
    • Support access and provisioning needs
    • Coordinate access and entitlement changes
    • Develop and analyze functional, access, and security requirements for new services
    • Anticipate, plan for and navigate changes in service operations and functionality
  • Process Management, Change Management, and Reporting:
    • Develop and maintain system processes and documentation mapping contract entitlements to access rules, utilizing a deep understanding of directory system attributes and functionality
    • Develop and maintain system processes and documentation mapping contract entitlements to access rules to source data fields and values.
    • Consult with licensing managers and constituents to develop and analyze requirements for new titles and services.
    • Aggregate system metrics and provide reports on a regular basis and upon request
    • Manage enhancement and defect mitigation using established Change Management practices


Required Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of related work experience OR a Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related work experience
  • General SaaS Administrative Concepts
  • Experience interacting with, using scripts with, or leveraging Directory software (Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP) for improving processes or integrating systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365 applications or similar software
  • The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment as well as flexibility in the scope of duties assigned
  • Ability to absorb information from multiple sources, filtering and translating that input into meaningful information, that when shared with appropriate stakeholders creates value and assists with decision making


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience managing SaaS applications and interfacing with Identity Management system
  • Experience understanding and writing scripts in common scripting languages (i.e. PowerShell)
  • Experience administering SaaS systems, managing access and entitlement provisioning
  • Experience interpreting complex directory system data and applying this knowledge to system design and operation
  • Demonstrated skill querying, manipulating, and parsing large amounts of data
  • Experience using and applying Information Security principles and best practices, including performing risk analysis on cloud application configurations
  • Knowledge of basic user attributes and role structures used by directory services such as LDAP, ability to define directory filters for correct access, and ability to assess the impact of application of roles within SaaS environments
  • Ability to understand and use APIs to automate processes including retrieval and update data
  • Familiarity with database management concepts and architectures
  • Knowledge and understanding of data flow diagrams and logic
  • Skilled in creation and maintenance of high-quality technical documentation
  • Ability to review, analyze and troubleshoot errors of cloud applications using detailed log data
  • Experience configuring installers for locally installed software clients such as CrashPlan, Zoom, etc.
  • Familiarity with both Microsoft and MacOS operating systems
  • Knowledge of basic DNS terminology and concepts
  • Knowledge of the principles of Single Signon (ie: Shibboleth or SAML) for configuring and testing SSO integrations in SaaS services

Anticipated Hiring Range: $85,000 - $96,700
