The Clinical Social Work Psychotherapist provides triage assessment, diagnostic and developmental evaluations, brief treatment (individual, couple or group therapy), referral assistance, crisis intervention, mental health screenings and day and after-hours on-call crisis services. The position may also provide supervision and some outreach programming.

The Clinical Social Work Psychotherapist serves as a consultant and service provider to patients receiving care at an ambulatory clinic. In addition, the position provides referral support for patients wishing to connect with psychological and psychiatric services in the community. The bulk of this position is to provide psychotherapy services scheduled by access staff of upwards to 5 to 6 patients per day.
  • Provides individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, crisis intervention and clinical consultation.
  • Manages outreach initiatives and programming.
  • Conducts clinical interviews to obtain a comprehensive patient overview and discuss educational history, physical and mental health issues, social factors and substance use.
  • Conducts screening and comprehensive diagnostic evaluations.
  • Provides referral-based consultation services for the ambulatory.
  • Provides group and individual psychotherapy for the ambulatory.
  • Maintains acceptable working knowledge of community resources needed to provide continuity of care.
  • Maintains credentials necessary for insurance panel participation.
  • Maintains and submits clinical documentation requisite for billing insurance in a timely manner.
  • Provides critical assessment of social determinants and individual safety, and places appropriate referrals as required as mandated reporter.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $60,236.80 - $96,387.20 Annually

  • Education: Doctorate in social work preferred. Master's degree in social work required.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in the social work field post-MSW with a minimum of one year providing individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents or adults required.
  • Licensure: Must be currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Virginia or be license-eligible (must provide proof of credentials as part of the pre-hire process).

Job requires sitting for prolonged periods, standing/traveling or use of assistive and climbing (stairs, steps). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to hear, speak, see, distinguish colors, read and write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull <20 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
