They prepare patients for appointments by obtaining vital signs and entering into EMR, maintain clinic flow, assist staff with procedures, ensure patient safety, maintain infection-control standards, prepare patients for discharge/home care, and maintain unit supplies and equipment.

The CNA is part of a team and establishes priorities by collaborating with other team members. The CNA follows protocols for obtaining vital signs and performing simple procedures and receives formal supervision from the Clinic Manager.

Responsibilities include:
  • Measuring and recording vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration for each new patient on admission.
  • Documenting and reporting patient information clearly and concisely via electronic medical record.
  • Demonstrating a consistent level of performance irrespective of changes in workload.
  • Reporting observations regarding patient's welfare or condition to appropriate nurses and care providers.
  • Recognizing emergency situations and reporting to appropriate staff.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

The ability to communicate effectively and coordinate workflow of patients through a clinic is essential. The ability to perform basic computer skills and perform unit maintenance skills is required. Knowledge of EKG and ear irrigation procedures, processing of sterile supplies, and collecting and handling lab specimens is also necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel) is required.

A high school diploma and one year of experience providing hands-on healthcare to patients in a medical setting is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed some college coursework. Certified Nursing Assistant certification/licensure and eligibility to practice in the State of Virginia are required. However, applicants may also be license-eligible by the start date of the position. CPR certification is also required, while current BLS certification is preferred.
