Responsible for performing specialized technologist roles within the invasive cardiovascular procedure setting. Operates specific high technology equipment and utilizes products under the direction of a qualified physician to assist with procedures performed on patients which lead to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart and peripheral vascular disease.


Performs and supports image acquisition, image processing, physiologic/hemodynamic data acquisition, and simple EP/3D mapping during invasive procedures; assists nurses with patient management.

  • Proficiently performs all job functions of Cardiovascular Technologist - Level I:
  • Imaging system for cardiac and special procedures is appropriately operated under the direct supervision of an authorized physician user of radiation emitting imaging equipment.
  • Digital image acquisition, image transfer and image reproduction is consistently monitored.
  • Image processing and quantitative angiographic analysis are correctly performed during complex interventions.
  • Digital imaging network is supported, including troubleshooting.
  • Archived images are appropriately accessed and cut film is acquired as needed.
  • Proper radiation and equipment safety standards are consistently met.
  • Assistance with equipment maintenance and repair management as needed.
  • Participation in new equipment evaluation and acquisition is provided as directed.
  • Proficiency in the use of physiologic/hemodynamic analytical equipment is demonstrated during procedures.
  • (EP) Assists physicians with setting up and troubleshooting EP equipment, recording results for EP studies, and simple EP mapping and 3D mapping procedures.
  • Assists nurses with management of critical care and other complex patients.
  • (CCL) Cross trained on hemodynamic monitoring for all adult & pediatric cases.
  • Proficient in scrubbing all adult & pediatric cases
  • Proficient in precepting new employees, fellows and students on all diagnostic & interventional procedures.

 

Assists physician operator and invasive team before, during and after invasive procedures.

  • Sterile instruments, catheters, devices and supplies are set up correctly for each procedure.
  • Assistance to the physician, with active anticipation of the physicians needs during the procedure is provided on a disciplined, consistent basis.
  • Maintenance of good sterile technique is always practiced.
  • The specific function and requirements for the proper use of all diagnostic and interventional equipment are understood and demonstrated in practice.
  • Proper functioning of all advanced lab ancillary equipment and any novel invasive based equipment is appropriately maintained.
  • Assistance with supply inventory management is performed as directed.
  • Maintains presence throughout the entire procedure in coordination with other team members.
  • Physician needs are anticipated to the extent that physicians rarely have to ask for anything.
  • Collaboration with team members is provided to efficiently turn over procedure rooms and enhance overall patient throughput is required.

 

Provides appropriate care to patients consistent with level of training.

  • Assistance with basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques is provided as needed.
  • Patients are prepared for procedures and patient data is monitored and recorded throughout the procedure.
  • Incidental events are recorded throughout the procedure for analysis including blood samples, cardiac output etc.
  • Post-procedure instructions are reinforced and patient' questions are answered appropriately.
  • Arterial and venous hemostasis is performed as required.
  • Support for ongoing lab operations and professional development is performed where appropriate via cross training.

 

Performs activities to support the service/departmental operation.

  • Professional specialty certification is achieved prior to CVT 2 promotion/hire and maintained throughout employment. Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) for EP; Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or ARRT (CV) or (CI) for cath.
  • Functions as room leader as directed by EP/Cath lab shift manager.
  • Participation in training of students, residents, and fellows is provided as appropriate including acting as a preceptor/mentor for new and developing lab staff.
  • Accuracy and quality are maintained for activities.
  • Specific support functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
  • Deadlines for activities are met.
  • Specific support functions are handled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Position Compensation Range: $28.96 - $46.34 Hourly


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Associate's Degree or Equivalent Education and Experience.
Experience: A minimum of two years full time experience in an external Cardiac Cath or Electrophysiology Lab setting OR a minimum of one year of full time internal Cath or EP Lab experience.
Licensure:

  • EP- RCES (Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist).
  • Cath RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) - or - ARRT (CV) or (CI).
  • Must be RCIS, RCES or ARRT (CV) or (CI) certified prior to CVT 2 promotion/hire.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing/sitting for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling (distance: 50 feet), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease
