Card System Support Technician

The University of Virginia's Business Operations office is seeking a Card System Support Technician. The Technician supports the card-based services offered to students, faculty and staff at over 8,000 locations by UVa's Office of Business Operations. Card System services include electronic access control, meal plans, point of sale services, unattended online card readers (vending, laundry, copy, printing), entitlements checking, and ID card production.

The Card System Support Technician provides advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic support, and installs and oversees the installation of a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. They are skilled in problem solving, troubleshooting, and configuring distributed control systems. Technicians work independently or as part of a team consisting of assistants, other technicians, or contractors to install electronic devices and controls. They also provide routine mentoring and training to lower level technicians. Technicians may act on behalf of the supervisor in their absence. They ensure safe, comfortable, and compliant environments are maintained throughout the University by installing, troubleshooting, and modifying complex electronic equipment. The Technician shares rotating night/weekend on-call duties with technical staff, monitoring the card system for proper operation and responding to requests for assistance with remote locking/unlocking of doors. Technicians may work in high-energy and/or high-risk environments.

 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Configuration, installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of various online readers and devices controlled by the University's card system (CBORD CS Gold®), with an emphasis on maintenance and support of electronic access controls.
  • Provide advanced electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics support to lower level technicians.
  • Review, evaluate functionality, and install complex electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Order, stock, remove, and replace electronic and related equipment.
  • Conduct inspections, maintain logs, and report areas of concern.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Four years' experience troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic control systems.

Licensure: Recognized controls industry certification or successful completion of two or more controls vendor development courses.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $25 - $30 per hour (equivalent to $52,000 -$62,400 per annum) depending upon experience and relevant qualifications.
