The Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the
School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks a full-time Instructional Design and Multimedia Specialist with experience in instructional design, lesson creation and multimedia development for online learning. The work will focus on providing interactive and engaging online learning experiences that support Virginia's early childhood education leaders and teachers in their work with young children. Our aim is to support teachers in creating high-quality environments that promote learning for every young child in a Virginia.
Specifically, this position will support the state-wide expansion of the
STREAMin3curriculum model and the online
Early Childhood Education (ECE) Resource Hub through a partnership and funding from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Ideal candidates should have a passion for online learning, multimedia development and the field of education, particularly in instruction and the area of early childhood education.
This is a remote position. It may require occasional travel to meetings and programs.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:

Work closely with faculty and staff to identify and develop effective ways of transforming existing courses/training into interactive and engaging online learning experiences.

Design and develop new high-quality, engaging online learning experiences for ECE teachers and leaders (e.g., web, video, courses, mini-modules).

Assist with the creation, expansion or maintenance of an organization framework for the online, wide distribution of ECE resources and materials.

Conduct usability testing.

Collaborate with content experts on lesson scripts.

Assist in creation of systems or materials to promote and recruit participants and gather feedback to use as part of an iterative design.

Provide ongoing instructional design and technology support to coaches, teachers and leaders to help improve and make use of professional development experiences.

Be able to multitask across various tasks and coordinate with multiple stakeholders. Produce work with great attention to detail and high quality.

Demonstrate the ability to be an innovative and flexible thinker with strong problem-solving skills, as well as excellent organization, time management and multitasking abilities.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse internal working teams to communicate project expectations and progress.

Required Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have:

A bachelor's degree. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Two years of instructional computing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A strong preference will be given to candidates that meet some or all of the preferred qualifications, which include:
-
A bachelor's or master's degree in instructional/educational technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.

A strong knowledge of instructional design, multimedia development and online learning development tools.
-
The ability to creatively translate face-to-face learning or new content into engaging online learning experiences.
-
Experience with supporting or designing products specifically for the field of early childhood.
-
Experience working with curriculum training or developing curriculum supports.
-
Understanding of responsive and mobile design as it relates to instructional design.

Strong working knowledge of:

Instructional design theory and frameworks, such ADDIE, ARCS, Bloom's Taxonomy and Agile ID

Screencasting and video-editing software
-
Adobe Suite
-
Articulate Storyline software
-
LMS and CMS programs such as Canvas, Brightspace, WordPress and Elementor
-
Proficiency in use of:
-
Project management tools (e.g., Trello, Smartsheet)

Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)

Videoconferencing or webinar tools (e.g., Zoom)
-
Virtual platforms or storage (e.g., Google Docs, Box, Trello)
Compensation Information
Salary range: $55,000 -$65,000, commensurate with education and experience, including
UVA benefits.
The position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt-level, benefited position. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. This restricted position is a one-year appointment. Continuation beyond one year is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
