The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education and Human Development seeks applicants for UVA Bilingual Data Collector - PALS - Northern Virginia (Wage) positions to collect data in PreK-3 classrooms in the Northern Virginia region. The UVA Bilingual Data Collector - PALS - Northern Virginia (Wage) collects data for the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) pilot project, which aims to iteratively develop, test, and refine PALS for use with students in grades PreK to 3. Duties of this position include administering assessments of students' language and literacy, as well as data entry, data uploading, ensuring data integrity, and providing feedback to improve and refine the instruments.

Work activities will occur from January through May 2022 following a typical school day schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 3:00pm. Specific workdays and number of hours per week are flexible based on the UVA Bilingual Data Collector's - PALS - Northern Virginia (Wage) availability.

Primary requirements for this position include the following:

  • Spanish proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing
  • A HS diploma (or equivalent)
  • Some experience working with children in an educational or out-of-school setting (such as a summer camp or an after-school program)
  • Reliable personal transportation for traveling to, from, and between schools

Additional requirements include:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; strong organization skills and attention to detail; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word); proficient use of the internet as well as laptops, tablets, and/or PCs; experience uploading/downloading information using cloud storage platforms; and ability to troubleshoot technology
  • Ability to attend training sessions in January and/or February, which may include a combination of videoconference and in-person meetings

A bachelor's degree in Social Science, Education, or related field is preferred.

Pay range: $20 - $25 per hour
